Biography
Dr. Lauren A. Magee is an assistant professor at the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI. She received her Ph.D. in criminal justice from Michigan State University in 2018 and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in Children’s Health Services Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2020. Her interdisciplinary research intersects the fields of public health and criminal justice and focuses on how social determinants of health, poverty, and neighborhood dynamics influence violence and other health outcomes among adolescents and young adults. Her research takes a mixed-methods approach by leveraging police and health care data linked at the individual level and through qualitative interviews with victims to identify opportunities for intervention, with specific emphasis on individuals with mental illness, substance use disorders, and those involved in firearm violence.
She is a recipient of the Early Career Investigator Award (KL2) from the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute which is funded in part from the National Institutes of Health, National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, Clinical and Translational Sciences Award and was a recipient of the National Institute of Health, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institution of Child Health & Human Development, Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2019.
